The Roasted Nut Cafe
The Roasted Nut Cafe on Queen St. West in Toronto is a cozy spot that offers a great selection of coffee, tea, and snacks. The cafe has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with comfortable seating options both inside and outside on the patio.
The store is located at the corner of Queen St and Bellwoods Avenue, and you’ll find a small window on its side where you can order your to-go drink.
On Cherry Blossom’s first day of bloom, I get to take a drip coffee with oat milk on it — yes, they have milk alternatives if you’re not into whole milk! It kinda spilled out of the cup before getting to enjoy it, though (‘coz you know, it’s a bumpy path!) I placed it on the cupholder in front of the wagon, in which my toddler sits and waits patiently to get down and walk at the park. :)
In case you forgot to bring a snack with you. This store is ready to serve you! You can build your own toast or grab a bag of nuts from their selections. Its weigh and pay style makes it appealing to get assorted nuts for the week!
Nadege
Nadege is a French patisserie known for its delectable pastries, cakes, and macarons. As soon as I walked into the patisserie, I was greeted by a beautiful display of pastries and sweets, each one looking more tempting than the last.
The interior of the patisserie has a clean and minimalist design. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, eager to help me make my selections.
My daughter and I used to hang out here before we head to Trinity Bellwoods Community Centre for her once-a-week craft class. I have tried all their croissant sandwiches, and my favourite is the Smoked Salmon Croissant Sandwich. The cucumber in it makes every bite refreshing, and the cream cheese blends well with everything in it!
The staff here are generous — I lost count of how many times we heard “it’s on-the-house” for the macarons I found on my plate. I appreciate their nice gesture towards regular customers.
In case you always customize your coffee, feel free to ask, as they usually have milk alternatives for your coffee, too! When the weather became summer feels last week, I ordered an iced latte. A few moments later, a cup of warm latte was brought to our table. I would have told them to change it, but I decided to keep it as I didn’t mind having a warm drink — taste it and you’ll never give it back (haha!). But the staff went back to our table and offered to make the right drink for me. Aren’t they nice?
White Squirrel Coffee Shop
White Squirrel Coffee Shop is close to the Trinity Bellwoods’ gate at Queen St West. You can quickly grab a coffee by their convenient order window, making it easy for people strolling along Queen St.
I get to try Cortado for the first time from this coffee shop. Initially, I was surprised when I received the cup weighing a little lighter than I expected. Then I learned that Cortado is composed of espresso with an equal amount of warm milk. That means if the standard espresso serving size is 30ml, my cup of coffee only contained roughly 60ml, hence being lightweight!
